"Sold Out" When Items Are Available

Seeing products marked as "Sold Out" in your bundle when they have inventory? Here's what causes this and how to fix it.

Updated yesterday

Common Causes

  1. Product not published to Online Store

  2. Variant out of stock (not the product)

  3. Multi-location inventory settings

  4. Inventory tracking issues

  5. Product removed from bundle collection

Check 1: Is the Product Published?

Products must be published to your Online Store sales channel to appear as available.

How to check:

  1. Go to Products in Shopify admin

  2. Find the product showing as sold out

  3. Click to edit it

  4. In the right sidebar, check Sales channels and apps

  5. Make sure Online Store is checked

  6. Click Save

Check 2: Is the Specific Variant in Stock?

A product can have some variants in stock and others sold out.

Example:

  • T-Shirt in Small: 10 in stock

  • T-Shirt in Medium: 0 in stock (sold out)

  • T-Shirt in Large: 5 in stock

If a customer selects Medium, it will show as sold out even though the product has inventory.

How to check:

  1. Go to Products in Shopify admin

  2. Click the product

  3. Scroll to Variants

  4. Check inventory for each variant

Check 3: Multi-Location Inventory

If you have multiple fulfillment locations (warehouses, stores), inventory is tracked per location.

The issue: By default, Shopify shows a product as "in stock" if there's inventory at ANY location. But if that location can't ship to the customer, they'll see an error at checkout.

The solution: Enable Fulfillable Inventory in Shopify settings.

  1. Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery

  2. Find "Manage fulfillable inventory" link

  3. Enable Show only fulfillable inventory

  4. Save

This makes products show as "Sold Out" when they're not available at locations that can ship to the customer.

Check 4: Inventory Tracking Settings

Check how inventory is tracked for the product.

How to check:

  1. Go to Products in Shopify admin

  2. Click the product

  3. Scroll to Inventory

  4. Check the tracking settings

Possible issues:

  • "Don't track inventory" — Product should always show as available

  • "Track inventory" with 0 stock — Product is correctly showing sold out

  • Inventory policy — "Continue selling when out of stock" affects availability

Check 5: Product Still in Collection? (Pack Builder & Collection Bundles)

For Pack Builder and Collection Bundles, products must be in the specified collection.

For Pack Builder: Products must be in the collection you selected when creating the pack.

For Collection Bundles: Each step pulls from a specific collection. If a product is removed from that collection, it won't appear.

How to check:

  1. Go to Products → Collections

  2. Find the collection used by your bundle

  3. Verify the product is still included

Check 6: Product Status

Make sure the product isn't:

  • Draft — Not visible to customers

  • Archived — Hidden from all channels

  • Deleted — Removed completely

How to check:

  1. Go to Products in Shopify admin

  2. Use the Status filter to check for draft/archived products

  3. Change status to Active if needed

Check 7: Scheduled Products

If a product is scheduled to publish in the future, it won't appear as available yet.

How to check:

  1. Go to Products in Shopify admin

  2. Click the product

  3. Look for a "Scheduled" status or publication date

  4. Remove the schedule or wait for the publish date

Pack Builder Specific Issues

All items showing sold out

If every item in your Pack Builder shows sold out:

  1. Check that the product collection still exists

  2. Verify products are in the collection

  3. Make sure products are published

Items disappear from pack

If products completely disappear (not just sold out):

  • The product may have been deleted

  • The product may have been removed from the collection

  • The variant may have been deleted

Still Showing Sold Out?

If you've verified:

  • Product is published

  • Product has inventory

  • Product is in the correct collection

  • All variants have stock

Try these steps:

  1. Refresh the bundle product page (hard refresh: Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R)

  2. Clear browser cache or test in incognito mode

  3. Wait a few minutes — Inventory syncs can take time

  4. Contact support — Share the product and bundle details
